War and Taxes

I attended my third Democratic candidate debate last night in Shelburne. I asked the question about how we as citizens can stop paying taxes to fight wars. We have a deficit yet 1.5 billion of our money is being used to murder people. The candidates all claimed they opposed the war and were helpless to keep us from paying for it. Only Doug Racine choose to say he would not always walk heel to toe in regard to the Federal Governments demands. I knew they had no grand plan for keeping our money here in Vermont. My main goal was to point out that we as a state are wasting lots of our tax money on something that benefits us in know way. In fact it is a major detriment, and will burden our taxpayers for years to come. I still believe education is the key. Burlington College has a course on war that is being taught by an anti-war activist. We need to have these courses in every high school so that children learn the truth about conflict and we can help fight the propaganda delivered by the Military Industrial Complex. The best way to stop war might be to have nobody willing to join the military.

  1. Hello, I am in the Vermont Army National Guard currently deployed to Afghanistan. How can you completely go off what an anti war activist's opionon, there are sometimes when war is needed. Students need a well rounded education and not to just go off what an anti war theory. And your comment about the best way to stop war might be "to have nobody willing to join the military". Really, are you serious? How can you have the Green Mountain boy flag on your home page but not support the military? Maybe you should look into Vermonts history a little more.

  2. I completely agree!!! How can you be so anit-war if you will at a time when our very patriotic state has its biggest deployment ever? And furthermore, you do realize that if no one joins the army then the government will most probably just reinstitute the draft again dont you? I think you need to stop preaching no war and start supporting the many Vermonters that are risking their lives so you can live in peace with your idiotic ideas!

  3. I do not believe patriotism involves invading sovereign countries to secure opium and oil, and killing one million innocent people. I will never ask you or anyone to do this for me.If no one joined the army we would have peace. If you read history you will see that we have invaded 29 countries and none have invaded us. I support having the Vermont Guard in Vermont. I will never support killing for any reason. All the reasons the public has been given for wars are bold faced lies. The results prove what we are really after. Destabilization, occupation, and theft. I can live in peace just fine and have for many years, but I am now following people like Ethan Allen, Thomas Jefferson, and George Aiken who would never in my mind have allowed our freedoms and liberties to be taken away for the illusion of protection. If you want to get my freedoms back go occupy the halls of congress in D.C. and repeal the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act.

  4. Considering the fact that you are up for election and the fact that the State of Vermont has over 1,500 troops defending YOUR freedom and YOUR ability to vote, perhaps you would be a bit more supportive? It seems quite asinine that you would actually be so unsupportive of our National Guard units fighting in Afghanistan because last time I checked, Vermont was a pretty small state with close-knit communities. This means that if a single soldier is deployed from a community then the general public would more than likely support the soldier. They will not be supporting the politician who is suggesting that we essentially bring back the draft so there will be much more then a single soldier deployed from the community. Would you be willing to go over? Enough said.

  5. I never joined the Vermont Army National Guard to kill other people. For you to assume that is a mistake on your part. If a situation arises that I might have to fire my weapon at someone who demonizes the U.S and everything we stand for, well I guess I will have to. Obviously your are blind to the fact that there are bad people in this world, do you remember a man called Adolf Hitler? What would happen if the world did not stop him? Do you rmember the Taliban murdering women for looking at other men that were not their husbands? Do you rmember a group called Al Queda? Maybe we have been lied to on Iraq, maybe you forgot about 9/11. I joined after 9/11 to help protect what I love. Maybe you should think about that for a while too. To demonize the the military like you have should be a crime. Also remember that the Vermont Army National Guard has done more to protect your liberties then you will ever do if you get elected.

  6. The CIA is worse than Al Qaeda. Bush was worse than Saddam Hussien.Do you remember how we have tortured innocent people to death? Do you remember how we have killed 500,000 children? Do you remember how we have spread weapons of mass destruction across Iraq and they are now ruining the lives of IRaqi's and soldiers like you? The Pentagon employed the Taliban for 10 years and did not care about their treatment of women. Its all about business deals and corporate greed. I remember AL Qaeda, created by the CIA. You need to read more factual information and less government propaganda. If General Dubie is in charge of protecting my liberties he has failed me and all Vermonters.
